A caring community connecting creative citizens centered on constructive contrivance as a coping channel commonly concerning crafts, coffee, and/or cats. A culture of compassion.
BUT FOR REALSIES…
Are you creative at heart? Struggling to embrace your creative side? Looking for a community?
Acting on creative urges is hard, especially when you find yourself reeling from a cycle of imposter syndrome (article coming soon from The Broken Mentor). Ahh, the infinite joys of navigating introversion plus artistry! Sometimes, all we need is a small nudge of support to break free from the paralysis. A paralysis brought on by the nasty voice of our own worst critics–ourselves.
So…what exactly IS The Literary Canvas?
Our team consists of two aspiring authors and an artist hoping to connect with other creative minds because interacting with people CAN be surprisingly pleasant sometimes. We want to build a community, more specifically, a collective of artists and art enthusiasts. The Literary Canvas defines art in a very loose sense of the term — anything creative!
Some of us communicate effectively through written language (poems, fiction, memoirs, etc.). Some of us express ourselves best through visual language (photos, drawings, mosaics, etc.). Have you ever looked at a photo and felt the exact emotion the photographer intended? And some of us pour our emotions into other creative outlets (cooking, woodworking, decorating, etc.). Could the food on your plate be described as a visual spectacle? Maybe your barista made a particularly pleasant design in your latte. Each of these represents art in our book! No matter the creative discipline, let’s support each other in our endeavors!
The Literary Canvas aims to give all artists a place to be celebrated, inspired, or supported. If you enjoy art or appreciate the creative process, join us! We need a village to band together and give creative minds a boost of encouragement.
Our team of three will collaborate to share blog posts containing creative challenges, short stories, photos, artistic images, crafting projects, past experiences and more. All are welcome to share as much or as little about their own projects in post comments. We want creatives to have the opportunity to shine because the world is still a beautiful place, even as it becomes increasingly difficult to recognize the good bits.
THE GROUND RULES…

A small taste of what we will have to offer…
Let’s imagine a world (not too far from the truth) where cats are in charge. It’s quite often we see or hear of a household (my house) dominated by the cats living there, but if we expand that to a global scale… what does that look like?
What powers (if any) would cats need for this to become reality?
Would they need to be a different size?
What role would humans play in this society? Do we still hold normal jobs/careers?
We would love to hear some details about your version of a feline-ruled society! Please feel free to share your thoughts!
I'll kick off the discussion with a few of my thoughts! I think for cats to truly rule the world, they would have mind control abilities, and humans would be especially susceptible to these powers. The cats would also have the cognitive capabilities of humans and understand in order for their world domination to work, the scheme would need to go unnoticed. The humans would need to think everything was normal and that they controlled the cats, when in reality, the cats were in control the entire time. Anyone else have thoughts on how a feline-ruled society might play out?
